Abstract:
The number of older adults is increasing in Portugal and globally. Aging is often associated with mobility limitations, which can difficult the measurement of anthropometric data, such as height. Also, variations in height occur with advancing age, reinforcing the need to study these individuals. Height is crucial in clinical practice, especially for calculating body mass index (BMI) and assessing nutritional status. Surrogate methods for estimating height have been suggested when direct measurement is not feasible. However, determining the optimal alternative method for clinical practice, especially in older adults, remains elusive. Therefore, the present work aims to compile relevant research on alternative height estimation methods and conduct a comparative evaluation within the same sample of older adults.
