Manuela Oliveira (MO) completed her Doctoral Degree in Biology, in 2009, at the University of Porto Faculty of Sciences (FCUP); her Master's in Genetic Resources and Breeding of Agricultural and Forest Species, in 2003, at the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro; and her Degree in Biology, in 1999, at FCUP. MO currently holds a position as Junior Researcher (DL 57/2016) at the IPATIMUP/i3S. MO also received eight awards for scientific/academic merit and in the area of entrepreneurship. Over the last few years, either as a postdoctoral fellow or as a researcher, she acquired a comprehensive scientific experience in Biology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, and Metagenomics. Mo's current work focuses on Forensic Applications of Microbiology, mainly on aspects such as fungal diversity, bacterial and fungal genotyping, fungal aging mechanisms, fungal susceptibility to antifungal compounds, and bacterial susceptibility to antibiotics. MO frequently collaborates as a Guest Editor (Journal of Fungi: ISSN 2309-608X and ISSN 2309-608X), member of Editorial Boards (Annals of Microbiology and Immunology, ISSN 2640-6683; Frontiers in Environmental Microbiology, ISSN Print: 2469-7869), and reviewer to international journals (e.g., Microbiome, Journal of Fungi, Scientific Reports, BMC Microbiology, and Biology Direct), member of project evaluation panels for international institutions (JSC - "National Center of Science and Technology Evaluation"). Regarding teaching activities, MO was an Invited Assistant Professor at the Department of Biology from FCUP (2014-2022)., being the advisor or co-advisor of seven master's students (from the FCUP and the Superior Institute of Engineering of Porto) and a member of six academic juries (from the FCUP and at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto/Abel Salazar Institute of Biomedical Sciences). MO is very active in public engagement and science communication, and divulgation. She participated in several editions of the "Programa Ciência Viva", "Projeto SEI - Sociedade, Escola e Investigação" (2015-2017), and "Mostra da U.Porto" (2016).
